Astrology and the Bible
ASTROLOGY: First, we need to understand what it is, and it's possible origins. A concise definition of it would be: A technique utilizing the positon of the planets, sun and moon at the time and place of birth of a person as signposts to explain that individual's life, character and destiny. Astrology users also believe that this method can be used to predict future events.
The practice of Astrology is firmly rooted in pagan worship of the stars and occultism. Some believe that astrology was first developed by the ancient Chaldeans. It evolved over the ages with one of the major spiritual influences on it being Theosophy. Theosophy is a system of belief which origininated in Hinduism. It was founded in the 1800's by the infamous occult seer, Madame Helena Blavatsky (1831-1891). Blavatsky co-founded the Theosophical Society in 1875 with Henry Olcott. Theosophy relied primarily on the channeling of spirits and alleged contact with spirit guides. These ideas promoted belief in reincarnation (a belief wherein one returns many times after death so as to evolve); a spiritual hierarchy of Ascended Masters who guide those on earth to higher levels of spiritual understanding; and Pantheism, the belief that God is all and all is God. Astrology was further impacted by well known astrologer Isabel Hickey. Hickey devised a number of ideas for interpreting astrological charts. Her primary teaching emphasized the recognition and interpretation of one's "karmic lessons" (lessons learned from other lives the person had led). Astrologers then, and now believe that one can choose to harness and use the force of the planet to reap growth and benefits from previously uncontrollable events. Astrological charts are viewed as soul blueprints. Roadmaps or patterns, if you will, that can be arranged and corrected in a number of ways by those who are enlightened and aware. Astrology is touted as the ultimate tool to "search yourself". It teaches that one ultimately has choices that are within their control through divination of the stars and planets. It's practice is clearly a form of divination which is the use of supernatural forces or reading of signs and omens for otherwise "secret" or "hidden" information. Symbols used in it's practice are intertwoven throughout other occultic practices such as sorcery, numerology, palm reading and the use of tarot cards.
Q - "SO WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT ASTROLOGY?"
1. "Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it." - Isaiah 47:13-14.
COMMENT: Those who practice Astrology will be destroyed.
2. "Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king; but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these:" - Daniel 2:27 - 28.
COMMENT: Astrology and it's practitioners are impotent.
3. "And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the Lord thy God hath diveded unto all nations under the whole heaven." - Deuteronomy 4:19.
COMMENT: Astrology is idolatry.
4. "Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O Ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon." - Acts 7:42-43.
COMMENT: God will judge his people if they resort to Astrology.
5. "When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer, For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out before thee." - Deuteronomy 18:9-12.
COMMENT: The Hebrew words "ashshaph" and "gzar" used in these passages and other Old Testament passages translate as "conjuror", "enchanter", "soothsayer" and "astrologer". All manner of such divination and omen reading is CONDEMNED.
6. "The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. Then came in the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof." Daniel 5:7-8.
COMMENT: If Astrology could not help the wise men in Daniel's day, how could it possibly be of benefit to the common man today?
If you have experimented with astrology while searching for self-fulfillment or spiritual satisfaction I can tell you from my own testimony, that your thirst can only be quenched by the living water of Jesus Christ (John 4:14). In closing we pray that if you are practicing astrology that you will turn from such and repent it's offense. It is imperative that you understand that your belief that astrological charts are working is based NOT upon spiritual or mystical universal laws, but upon laws which are fueled by supernatural demonic power (SATAN).
